Services

Rehabilitation Care
Recommended for adults of all ages who require inpatient rehabilitation services.

As patients recover from orthopedic procedures, a multidisciplinary team oversees their plan of care, following a holistic approach to maximize their return to wellness. Patients receive extensive, customized physical, occupational and speech therapies using state-of-the-art equipment, supported by nutritional and recreational therapies.

NHC HealthCare, Murfreesboro's comprehensive rehabilitation services are a significant part of our dedication to the concept of total patient management. Through continuing education programs, our licensed therapists are able to provide treatment using the most current techniques and methodologies available. Our inpatient services provide treatment to adults with all types of injuries, illnesses, and disabilities.

Physical Therapy provides rehabilitation services that help to restore function, improve mobility, manage pain, as well as aid in the prevention or limitation of disabilities as a result of injury or disease. Physical therapists use electrical stimulation, hot and cold therapy, massage, and other physical and electrical modalities to reduce pain and increase range of motion. They also teach mobility training using prostheses, wheelchairs, canes, crutches, and walkers. Physical therapy is an appropriate intervention for cerebrovascular accidents (i.e. strokes), orthopedic injuries and surgeries, developmental delays, etc.

Occupational Therapy helps patients regain as much independence as possible with self-care and activities of daily living, upper extremity function, and perceptual/cognitive abilities. Our occupational therapy services provide activities of daily living retraining utilizing compensatory techniques and adaptive devices as needed. Upper extremity therapeutic exercise and activities are also used to encourage range of motion, strengthening, and coordination for patients who have experienced a CVA (stroke), orthopedic injury, surgery, etc. Hand therapy and splinting are also provided for upper extremities. Occupational therapy can also utilize ultrasound or paraffin hot and cold packs to assist the therapeutic process.

Speech Therapy helps patients overcome communication conditions such as aphasia, swallowing difficulties, and voice disorders. Our speech therapists will conduct evaluations and therapy for speech/language disorders, dysphagia, voice or audiological disorders; while also utilizing augmentative communication and aural rehabilitation as needed.

Respiratory Therapy assists patients with breathing difficulties to reduce fatigue and increase tolerance in performing daily activities. Our respiratory therapist also manages the care for patients who are receiving Oxygen by mask and/or nasal canula, or receiving any other form of breathing related treatments.

Medical Nutritional Therapy promotes a better diet and healthier lifestyle with personal counseling and nutrition guidance. Our dietetics clinical coordinator conducts regular nutritional assessments and monitors patient diets to assist in weight management, diet control, and ensuring proper nutrition based on the patient's individual needs and preferences.

These events are planned to meet the physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of all patients; while also providing an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment. Some of the regular events are bingo games, music performances, refreshment socials, reminiscence and exercise groups, and craft classes.

Our activities and events are scheduled for patients 7 days a week. We have regular events such as church services, bingo games, music performances, birthday parties, spa/manicure days, and snack socials, among other enjoyable events. Activity and day rooms are located on each unit where patients can gather to watch television, play board/card games, have social gatherings, or other events. In addition, we individualize activities for those patients who are unable to participate in group activities.

We have church groups that host services, singings, and Bible studies throughout the week, and on Sunday. While also encourage our patients to maintain communication and involvement with their local church and religious groups.

Special Events

We host a multitude of holiday and other special events. Our private dining room and larger community room are available for patients to reserve for private birthday parties or other family gatherings at our center. Our recreation staff is also active in coordinating other special occasions that patients and partners actively participate in regularly. Our medically able patients are encouraged to attend outside events with family and friends at leisure. We also schedule group outings during the summer months to local restaurants, stores, and area attractions.

Volunteer Program

Volunteers provide a link between the patient and the local community to allow the patients to maintain an active connection with community groups, in addition to family and friends. Our volunteers help enrich quality of life through the sharing of their time and talents in a variety of areas, and are always welcomed.
